Fundashon Verriet Expands Autism Care Capacity, Aims to Cut Waiting List by 25%

WILLEMSTAD – Fundashon Verriet expects to reduce Curaçao’s autism care waiting list by approximately 25 percent through the construction of new residential care facilities on Kaya Aron.

The foundation has signed a financing agreement for the project with the Sociale Verzekeringsbank (SVB) and RBC Bank.

According to the organization, demand for autism care on Curaçao has risen sharply in recent years, particularly for clients with complex support needs.

These include individuals living with autism combined with other disorders or behavioral challenges, requiring more intensive and specialized care.

The new residential facilities will provide space for 30 clients once completed.

Of those, six will receive intensive autism-specific support tailored to more complex care needs.

Fundashon Verriet says the expansion, together with the nearly completed construction of Kas Amerigo Thodé, will significantly increase autism care capacity on the island and improve access for families currently waiting for services.

The announcement formed part of activities during Autism Awareness Month in April, when the foundation organized information sessions and public campaigns aimed at increasing awareness and understanding of autism and the daily realities faced by those living with the condition.

The foundation says expanding housing and care capacity remains critical as the need for autism services continues to grow.
