| By Correspondent February 24, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – The wijkteam of Fuik has been crowned champion of the second period in the Van Straat naar Stadion football competition, a social-community project organized by Fundashon Bicentini that uses sport to strengthen community ties and provide opportunities for young people across Curaçao.

In this second phase of the season, fourteen neighborhood teams played nine matches, with Fuik emerging as the strongest on aggregate. Although the wijkteam Weto also finished at the top of the standings during this period, the period title automatically goes to Fuik because Weto already holds the first period trophy.

Trainer and street coach Majron Maduro described the achievement as a recognition of team spirit, resilience and determination within the Fuik community. He emphasized that the competition focuses on more than sporting results; it aims to combine football with social development, respect and connection within and between neighborhoods.

With this period victory secured, Fuik now hopes to maintain strong performances in the third period as it competes for the overall championship of the project.

Van Straat naar Stadion is a street football league that brings together neighborhood teams from across the island. The competition is designed not only to foster football skills but also to promote youth engagement, discipline, teamwork and community involvement. It operates under a framework that rewards fair play and positive behavior, demonstrating that the benefits extend off the pitch as well as on it.

The project has been held since 2024 and continues to grow, with matches drawing attention for both their competitive spirit and their positive social impact.
