WILLEMSTAD – Motorists in Curaçao will pay less at the pump starting next Tuesday as the government lowers the maximum prices for both gasoline and diesel following a decline in international fuel prices.
The maximum retail price of gasoline will fall from just over ANG 2.75 to ANG 2.66 per liter, representing a decrease of more than 9 cents per liter.
Diesel users will see an even larger reduction. The maximum price will drop from ANG 2.48 to ANG 2.16 per liter, a decrease of more than 32 cents per liter.
According to the government, the lower prices are primarily the result of declining international purchase prices for both fuels.
In the case of diesel, the reduction is also being driven by a significant adjustment in the surplus and deficit component, a regulatory mechanism that corrects the difference between the estimated import cost used to calculate retail prices and the actual price eventually paid for fuel imports.
Because of the sharp fluctuations in global fuel prices over recent months, that correction has resulted in a substantial downward adjustment for diesel, further reducing the price consumers will pay at the pump.
Fuel prices have experienced considerable volatility throughout 2026. After declining slightly at the beginning of the year, both gasoline and diesel prices rose sharply in the spring.
At the beginning of February, gasoline sold for nearly ANG 1.87 per liter, while diesel was priced at ANG 1.60 per liter. Prices began climbing again in March, with gasoline reaching just over ANG 2.15 per liter and diesel rising to ANG 2.22 by the end of the month.
The largest increases occurred in May, when gasoline jumped to ANG 2.49 per liter and diesel climbed to nearly ANG 2.57. At the time, the government attributed the increases to higher international purchase prices and disruptions in global fuel markets caused by the conflict in the Middle East.
Gasoline reached its highest level of the year in early June at approximately ANG 2.75 per liter, while diesel had already begun easing to ANG 2.48.
Despite the reductions taking effect next week, fuel remains significantly more expensive than it was at the beginning of 2026. On January 1, motorists paid ANG 1.91 per liter for gasoline and just over ANG 1.64 per liter for diesel.
The latest price adjustment provides some relief for consumers and businesses, although fuel costs continue to remain well above the levels seen at the start of the year.
