From Vision to Impact: Curaçao Education Inspectors Complete Intensive Training in the Netherlands

Local, The Netherlands, | By Correspondent April 17, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Education inspectors from Curaçao have completed an intensive training program in the Netherlands aimed at strengthening oversight and improving the quality of education on the island.

The program followed a working visit to the Academy for Supervision in The Hague and the Dutch Education Inspectorate in Utrecht. Between April 3 and April 10, inspectors participated in six days of training led by leading experts, focusing on enhancing independent, effective, and forward-looking supervision.

The initiative marks a significant step in the ongoing development of the Curaçao Inspectorate of Education. According to organizers, the training combined elements such as language, legal expertise, communication skills, and the broader societal role of supervision.

Inspectors are returning to Curaçao with improved analytical skills, greater consistency in their work, and a stronger professional foundation. Authorities say this investment is expected to translate directly into more effective and independent oversight of the education sector.

The training was made possible through cooperation between the Government of Curaçao and the Dutch Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations, under the Temporary Work Organization (TWO).

A key part of the program focused on improving reporting and communication. Experts emphasized the importance of clear, structured writing as a strategic tool in supervision, leading to agreements on more standardized reporting practices.

Another component addressed the broader societal role of oversight, encouraging inspectors to go beyond control functions and contribute to trust-building and quality improvement within the education system.

Legal training also played a central role, equipping inspectors with tools to ensure that their work meets strict legal standards and supports good governance.

The final sessions focused on communication and personal effectiveness, including handling difficult conversations, managing resistance, and maintaining professionalism in complex situations.

Officials say the program reflects a broader effort to strengthen institutions and ensure that education oversight in Curaçao is both effective and aligned with international standards.
