Freewinds Returns to Curaçao, Celebrates Community Spirit and 38 Years at Sea

Local, | By Press release April 16, 2026

WILLEMSTAD - The Freewinds has returned to her home port of Curaçao, continuing a long standing tradition of partnership, cultural engagement, and community involvement on the island she has called home for nearly four decades.

During this year’s vibrant Seú Parade, passengers and volunteers from the Freewinds joined local residents in Otrobanda celebrating Curaçao’s heritage by distributing The Way to Happiness booklets.  The booklet, a common sense moral guide, includes precepts such as “Love and Help Children,” “Honor and Help Your Parents,” and “Treat Others as You Would Want Them to Treat You.” These reflect the respect, good manners and family values along with the spirit of unity and goodwill that defines the longstanding relationship between the Freewinds and the people of Curaçao.

This June marks a major milestone: the 38th anniversary of the Freewinds’ maiden voyage. Since first setting sail from Willemstad harbor on June 6 1988, the ship has maintained Curaçao as its home base, forging deep ties with local communities, cultural organizations, and civic partners. Over the years, the Freewinds has supported numerous humanitarian initiatives, fundraising activities, educational programs, and cultural celebrations.
