WILLEMSTAD – Children and teenagers up to the age of 18 will have the opportunity to receive free dental checkups at Festival Center on Sunday, November 1, as part of an initiative aimed at identifying dental problems early and promoting better oral health among young people in Curaçao.
The event is being organized by the foundation Un Smail pa Kòrsou (A Smile for Curaçao), which wants to encourage parents and children to pay greater attention to preventive dental care.
The checkups will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and will be conducted by dental professionals, supported by volunteers and partner organizations working with the foundation.
According to Un Smail pa Kòrsou, the screenings are intended to provide an accessible first step toward identifying potential dental problems before they become more serious.
The foundation emphasizes that early detection is essential to ensuring children receive appropriate dental treatment when needed.
The initiative also aims to educate children and their parents about the importance of maintaining good oral hygiene, including regular brushing, preventive dental visits, and healthy habits that can help prevent tooth decay and other oral health problems.
Beyond the screenings, the organization wants to draw attention to inequalities in access to dental care in Curaçao.
According to the foundation, not every child on the island has consistent access to the preventive dental services necessary for healthy development.
Limited access to regular checkups can result in dental problems going undetected until they require more extensive treatment.
Through the Un Smail pa Kòrsou project, the foundation hopes to reduce these barriers by making preventive dental services more accessible to families.
The organization considers the November 1 event an opportunity not only to identify existing dental problems but also to encourage greater awareness of children's oral health throughout the community.
Parents and guardians are invited to bring their children, from newborns through age 18, to Festival Center during the scheduled hours.
The foundation hopes the initiative will help more children receive timely dental attention while highlighting the need for equal access to preventive oral healthcare across Curaçao.
