Fourteen Curaçao residents receive royal honors for contributions to society

WILLEMSTAD – Fourteen residents of Curaçao have been awarded royal decorations in recognition of their contributions to society, with honors granted across healthcare, youth development, culture and social support.

The distinctions include one appointment as Officer, six as Knight and seven as Member in the Order of Orange-Nassau. The awards highlight long-standing dedication and impact in various sectors across the island.

Drs. W.F. Winkel has been appointed Officer for his years of service as a neurosurgeon in Curaçao’s healthcare system. In the category of Knight, several individuals were recognized for their contributions in different fields. Among them are Daniel Corsen for his work in youth welfare and Urny Florán for his role in the development of baseball.

Psychiatrists Frans Heijtel and Glenn Matroos were honored for their work in mental healthcare, while Anton Paas received recognition for his efforts in patient advocacy and inclusion. Stella Pieters Kwiers was also named Knight for her contributions to social and cultural development.

Seven individuals were appointed Members in the Order of Orange-Nassau for their involvement in a wide range of community activities. L.S. Curie was recognized for work in youth and family care, and Mercee Doran for contributions to music and youth development. Ingrid Haile-Hato received an award for her efforts in education and music, while Liesbeth Luis-Calister was honored for her work in social support and sports.

R.F.A. Rooi was recognized for contributions to youth and religious life, K.A.A. Soleana for involvement in foster care and social welfare, and G.T. Thomas for his work in media and youth engagement.

Royal honors were also awarded across the Caribbean parts of the Kingdom. Aruba recorded the largest number with nineteen recipients, including two Knights and seventeen Members. Bonaire saw three decorations awarded, while Sint Eustatius recorded five recipients.

The annual honors serve to recognize individuals who have made significant and lasting contributions to their communities.
