WILLEMSTAD – The four justice ministers participating in the Four-Country Judicial Consultation (JVO) in Curaçao visited the U.S. Consulate General on the second day of the meetings for a working lunch with U.S. Consul General Chico Negron.
The ministers, accompanied by their respective delegations, used the meeting to discuss opportunities to further strengthen and deepen cooperation between the United States and the countries of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Discussions focused in particular on cooperation in law enforcement, training and border security. These areas are considered especially important in a Caribbean region where countries and territories are closely interconnected and face many shared security challenges.
The meeting also addressed the importance of exchanging expertise and experience and improving coordination between institutions. According to Curaçao’s Ministry of Justice, closer international cooperation contributes to a stronger and better-prepared justice system.
The visit formed part of the JVO taking place in Curaçao, which brings together the justice ministers of Curaçao, Aruba, Sint Maarten and the Netherlands to discuss common priorities and cooperation within the justice sector.
The ministers emphasized that continued dialogue with international partners such as the United States is important for strengthening existing relationships while identifying new areas for cooperation.
The ultimate objective, according to the ministry, is to improve security and protection for communities throughout the region through stronger coordination and international partnerships.
