WILLEMSTAD – Police seized four illegal firearms and arrested three suspects following two separate vehicle pursuits on Curaçao over the past two days. In one of the incidents, shots were reportedly fired from a moving vehicle at another car.
The most recent pursuit began on Haitiweg, where, according to local reports, the occupants of a BMW chased an Audi while firing multiple shots in its direction. The vehicles continued toward Sto. Domingoweg, prompting the dispatch of several police patrols to the area.
When the occupants of the BMW spotted police officers, they attempted to flee but crashed into another vehicle during the pursuit.
Two men then abandoned the BMW and fled on foot. During the chase, each suspect allegedly discarded a firearm. Police recovered both weapons, arrested one of the suspects, and launched a search for the second man, who managed to escape.
The Audi that had reportedly been targeted in the shooting later arrived at the scene. Police impounded the BMW as part of the investigation and took the arrested suspect into custody for questioning.
Two More Arrests a Day Earlier
The latest incident follows another police chase that took place the previous day.
Officers from the Special Task Force (UST) observed a vehicle behaving suspiciously shortly after 12:05 a.m. on Dominico F. "Don" Martina Boulevard.
When officers attempted to stop the vehicle for inspection, the driver sped away, triggering a pursuit that ended on Sta. Rosaweg, where the vehicle crashed.
A search of the car led to the discovery of two firearms.
The two occupants, an 18-year-old and a 20-year-old, both born in Curaçao, were arrested and later brought before an assistant public prosecutor. They remain in custody while the investigation continues.
The four firearm seizures come as police continue efforts to combat illegal weapons and gun-related violence across the island. Authorities have not yet indicated whether the two incidents are connected.
