WILLEMSTAD – One of Curaçao’s most iconic landmarks is shining blue in honor of Team Curaçao as the island prepares for its historic participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Fort Nassau Restaurant and Curaçao Ports Authority (CPA) announced that Fort Nassau has been fully illuminated in blue as a tribute to the national football team, joining the “Blue Wave” of support that has swept across the island and beyond.

Perched above Willemstad since 1797, Fort Nassau overlooks the capital, the harbor, and the Caribbean Sea. Once built as a symbol of strength and protection, the historic fort now serves as a symbol of unity and national pride as Curaçao takes its place on football’s biggest stage for the first time in history.
According to Fort Nassau and CPA, the blue lighting is intended to celebrate not only the team’s sporting achievement but also the opportunity it creates to showcase Curaçao to a global audience.
“With the blue-lit fort, Fort Nassau Restaurant and CPA are supporting the Curaçao team that is showing millions of people more than just football,” the organizations said in a joint statement. “Their historic participation introduces the world to the culture, hospitality, passion, and strength of our island.”
The organizations described the World Cup qualification as a moment of pride for all of Curaçao, emphasizing the sense of excitement and togetherness that the national team has generated throughout the community.
“The energy, pride, and unity that Team Curaçao has inspired can be felt everywhere,” the statement continued. “You are carrying the island proudly onto the world stage.”
The tribute comes as anticipation builds ahead of Curaçao’s debut appearance at the FIFA World Cup, a milestone widely regarded as one of the greatest achievements in the island’s sporting history.
On behalf of their staff and management, Fort Nassau Restaurant and Curaçao Ports Authority extended their best wishes to the national team as it embarks on its World Cup campaign.
As landmarks, businesses, and residents continue to embrace the Blue Wave movement, the illumination of Fort Nassau serves as another visible reminder of the pride and excitement surrounding Team Curaçao’s historic journey.
