WILLEMSTAD – The former St. Elisabeth Hospital (SEHOS) property in Otrobanda has been sold and is expected to be transformed into a mixed-use development that will include residential apartments and other facilities, according to information independently verified by Curaçao Chronicle.
The redevelopment project involves two foundations, Stichting Monseigneur Kiekens and Stichting Otrobanda Village Developments, which will oversee the future development of the historic site. Information regarding the sale and redevelopment has circulated in recent days, prompting Curaçao Chronicle to seek independent confirmation before publication.

According to information obtained by Curaçao Chronicle, local entrepreneur Bas Filipini, known for his involvement in several hospitality and real estate projects, including developments in the Pietermaai District, has acquired the assets associated with the former hospital property.
Sources familiar with the transaction indicate that the historic chapel located on the SEHOS grounds will remain under the ownership of St. Elisabeth Hospital. The hospital organization is also expected to retain a 15 percent participation in the project, allowing it to remain involved in the future development of the site.
The former SEHOS complex has stood largely vacant since the opening of the Curaçao Medical Center in 2019, which replaced the aging hospital facilities in Otrobanda. Since then, discussions have continued regarding the future of the strategically located property overlooking parts of the historic district.

The redevelopment is expected to form part of broader efforts to revitalize Otrobanda and stimulate investment in the area. The introduction of residential units could contribute to increased economic activity and attract new residents to the historic neighborhood.
At this stage, detailed development plans, timelines, investment figures, and the exact mix of residential and commercial components have not yet been publicly released.
The project nevertheless represents one of the most significant real estate transactions involving former healthcare infrastructure in Curaçao since the transition from SEHOS to the Curaçao Medical Center.
Curaçao Chronicle has sought additional information from parties involved in the project and will provide further updates as more details become available.
