WILLEMSTAD – Former Member of Parliament Ana-Maria Pauletta has raised concerns about increasing pressure on key state institutions in Curaçao, following an unprecedented joint request for a meeting with the president of Parliament.

According to Pauletta, it is the first time in history that three state bodies have felt the need to collectively seek a meeting with the leadership of Parliament, signaling what she describes as growing concern within the institutional framework of governance.

She pointed to recent developments involving the Audit Chamber, which she says has come under what she characterized as unnecessary attacks. At the same time, the Ombudsman Curaçao is reportedly facing difficulties in ensuring its reports receive sufficient attention, while the Raad van Advies continues to struggle with the quality of legislation being submitted for review.

Pauletta welcomed the decision of the institutions to unite and raise these issues collectively, describing it as an important signal that attention is needed at the highest level.

She emphasized the importance of respecting both the existence and the work of these oversight bodies, which play a crucial role in safeguarding governance and accountability.

At the same time, she cautioned against personalizing public debate. According to Pauletta, shifting focus from substantive issues to individuals risks undermining meaningful discussion and weakens democratic processes.

Her remarks come amid ongoing debates about governance, institutional oversight, and the functioning of the rule of law in Curaçao.
