WILLEMSTAD – Former Member of Parliament Menki Rojer has publicly defended Curaçao Tax Receiver Alfonso Trona, sharply criticizing what he described as repeated public accusations of corruption without legal action or proof.

During a lengthy interview, Rojer questioned why allegations previously made against Trona by former Finance Minister Javier Silvania were never formally pursued through judicial channels.

According to Rojer, Trona has spent approximately 40 years working within the government structures of both the former Netherlands Antilles and Curaçao and should not see his career damaged without evidence or due process.

Rojer argued that repeatedly labeling someone as corrupt without presenting proof publicly harms a person’s integrity and reputation.

“You cannot simply call someone corrupt and then do nothing,” Rojer said during the interview, while also questioning why authorities had not intervened if there was credible evidence against Trona.

The former parliamentarian also referenced the role of the Public Prosecution Service and the Attorney General, saying that if corruption existed, legal authorities should have acted formally rather than allowing accusations to continue publicly without resolution.

Rojer described the situation as unfair toward a civil servant nearing the end of a long public service career.

According to him, Trona’s integrity has been unfairly questioned despite years of government service.

The interview also touched on broader concerns regarding governance, integrity, and political culture within Curaçao’s public sector.

Rojer stressed that integrity should remain central within government institutions and warned against damaging reputations without evidence or judicial findings.
