WILLEMSTAD – FKP says its new “Mi Kas Awor” housing program represents a major shift in Curaçao’s public housing philosophy by focusing on wealth-building through home ownership instead of long-term dependence on social rental housing.
According to the housing foundation, the traditional social rental subsidy system has existed for nearly 47 years and often left families dependent on rental structures without accumulating property or long-term financial value.
Between 2018 and 2025, FKP says 58 social rental homes were built under the traditional model with investments totaling approximately 7.3 million guilders.
Under the new Mi Kas Awor model, families are expected to work toward becoming full homeowners rather than entering permanent rental arrangements.
FKP says many participants may ultimately face monthly costs that are lower than traditional rental payments.
According to the foundation, housing should once again provide not only immediate security, but also long-term wealth accumulation for future generations.
