WILLEMSTAD – The first three decisions under the Rib’e Lugá registration and legalization program have been issued. The permits were granted on July 30, 2026, to three minor siblings, marking an important milestone in the temporary residency process.
The decisions were presented on behalf of Minister of Justice Shalten Hato by Cabinet Chief Saran Magdalena Inderson. The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Admission Organization, including Head of Policy and Legal Affairs Jennyfer Suares, Head of Admission and Residence René Eisden, Rib’e Lugá Project Manager Kishara Kroon and Family Guardianship Judicial Officer Elsa Penny.
Within the Rib’e Lugá program, priority is given to minors, in line with the policy of Minister Hato. For this reason, the applications submitted by the three children were processed first.
The government stated that the first issuance of permits to minors reflects the importance placed on protecting children and ensuring that vulnerable groups receive attention within the legalization process.
Rib’e Lugá is a temporary registration and legalization program for undocumented persons residing in Curaçao who may qualify for a temporary residence permit if they meet the established requirements.
Besides providing a pathway for registration and legalization, the program also aims to provide the government with better insight into the size, circumstances and characteristics of the undocumented population. According to Rib’e Lugá, this information is important for the future development of migration policy in Curaçao.
