WILLEMSTAD – Kiwanis Club Curaçao officially launched Curaçao’s first K-Kids Club on Wednesday afternoon at Skol Nechi Pieters, marking a new step in youth leadership and community involvement on the island.
The new organization is aimed at elementary school students and seeks to involve children in community service activities and civic engagement from an early age.
The installation ceremony took place after school hours in the presence of Kiwanis members, parents, school representatives and invited guests.
According to Kiwanis Club Curaçao, the K-Kids Club forms part of the international Kiwanis youth development structure designed specifically for primary schools.
K-Kids clubs consist of students who, under the guidance of teachers and with support from Kiwanis, organize activities benefiting both their school and the wider community. The children also form their own leadership board, helping them develop teamwork, leadership and responsibility skills.
Kiwanis International officially granted permission last year for K-Kids activities to operate on Curaçao.
During Wednesday’s ceremony, participating students were formally installed as members of the newly created K-Kids Skol Nechi Pieters chapter.
Teacher Jury-Ann Cijntje will guide the students on behalf of Kiwanis Club Curaçao. Cijntje, who is also a Kiwanis member herself, described the official launch of the club at her school as a special moment.
Representing Kiwanis Club Curaçao, Leonard Coffi congratulated the students on joining the organization. Together with other Kiwanis members, he presented the children with official Kiwanis pins, formally welcoming them into the K-Kids movement.
According to the organization, the initiative aims to strengthen social awareness, leadership and volunteerism among young students while encouraging active participation in the community from an early age.
