WILLEMSTAD – The first pro forma hearing in the criminal case against Shurendy Adelson “Tyson” Quant will take place on Monday, August 10. The Public Prosecutor’s Office (OM) considers Quant one of the alleged leaders of the criminal organization No Limit Soldiers (NLS).
The hearing will begin at 8:00 a.m. Curaçao time and will be held in the high-security courtroom at the Penitentiary Institution in Vught, the Netherlands. Residents of Curaçao will be able to follow the proceedings through a live video connection at Kas di Korte. No prior registration is required to attend the public viewing.
Quant was arrested in Dubai in November 2020. After a lengthy legal process, he was extradited by the United Arab Emirates to Curaçao in June of this year. Since his arrival in the Netherlands, he has been held at the Extra Secure Institution (EBI) in Vught.
The OM accuses Quant of ordering several assassinations, kidnapping, money laundering and leading a criminal organization. Prosecutors allege that he formed the leadership of NLS together with Urvin “Nuto” Wawoe.
The case against Quant is part of the large-scale criminal investigation known as Themis. The investigation focuses on alleged criminal activities committed in several countries within the Kingdom of the Netherlands and abroad.
According to justice authorities, NLS has been linked to international drug trafficking, money laundering and multiple serious violent crimes.
In 2022, during the Themis investigation, the OM seized five properties belonging to Quant in Curaçao. Prosecutors suspect that the properties were purchased with money obtained from criminal activities.
The August 10 hearing is a pro forma session, meaning the case will not be substantively argued yet. The court will discuss the status of the investigation, possible requests from the defense and the next steps in the criminal proceedings.
Quant’s case follows the conviction of Urvin “Nuto” Wawoe, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in connection with the broader criminal investigation.
