WILLEMSTAD – Police and firefighters responded to a fire at the former St. Elisabeth Hospital (SEHOS) building on Pater Eeuwensweg on Sunday morning after several reports of smoke coming from the building.
According to the Curaçao Police Force, the police emergency center received several calls at approximately 11:41 a.m. on Sunday, August 30, reporting smoke coming from the former hospital complex.
Police units and the Curaçao Fire Department were immediately dispatched to the location.
Upon arrival, emergency personnel observed smoke in two separate areas of the building. Smoke was detected on one of the upper floors, in an area where the hospital’s intensive care unit was previously located, as well as in a room on the lower level.
Firefighters moved quickly to bring the fire under control and prevented the flames from spreading further through the building and causing more extensive damage.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the extent of the damage or whether anyone was inside the building when the fire started.
An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
