WILLEMSTAD – The Ministry of Finance has announced that authorities will intensify inspections targeting counterfeit and unauthorized vehicle license plates, warning motorists that only officially issued license plates are permitted on Curaçao’s roads.
In a statement, the ministry emphasized that the use, sale, or falsification of non-official license plates is prohibited and may result in legal or administrative sanctions.
“The use, sale, or forgery of unofficial license plates is forbidden and can lead to legal or administrative measures,” the ministry stated.
Authorities also warned that license plates found to be in violation of the regulations may be confiscated during inspections.
The ministry is urging all vehicle owners to verify that their vehicles are equipped with officially issued license plates and to ensure they comply with existing regulations.
The announcement forms part of broader efforts to strengthen enforcement and improve compliance within the vehicle registration system. Officials say the stricter controls are intended to prevent fraud, improve vehicle identification, and support law enforcement efforts.
While the ministry did not specify when the enhanced inspections will begin, it stressed that vehicle owners should take immediate steps to ensure their license plates are legitimate and properly registered.
Authorities are encouraging motorists who have questions about the status of their license plates to contact the relevant government departments for clarification.
