FIFA President Gianni Infantino Visits Aruba to Launch Construction of Seven New Football Fields

Caribbean, | By Correspondent November 5, 2026

ORANJESTAD – FIFA President Gianni Infantino made a brief visit to Aruba on Wednesday, November 4, to officially launch a project involving the construction of seven new artificial turf football fields, an investment aimed at improving sports infrastructure and creating more opportunities for young football players on the island.

Infantino arrived in Aruba aboard a private aircraft and was welcomed at the airport by Minister of Sports Gerlien Croes.

The visit marked an important moment for football development in Aruba, as the new facilities will be financed through the FIFA Forward program, which provides financial support to national football associations for infrastructure improvements and other development initiatives.

During his visit, Infantino joined representatives of the Aruban Football Association (AVB) and prominent figures from the local sports community to celebrate the official start of the project.

The seven artificial turf fields are intended to strengthen the island's football infrastructure and provide young players with improved facilities for training and competition.

Investment in Youth Football Development

The project represents an investment in the future of football in Aruba, particularly for young athletes who will benefit from improved playing conditions.

Artificial turf fields can provide more consistent playing surfaces and support regular training and organized competitions.

For an island such as Aruba, where access to suitable sports facilities is important for youth development, the additional fields are expected to expand opportunities for participation in football.

The FIFA Forward program supports football development worldwide by providing funding to member associations for projects that strengthen infrastructure, administration, and grassroots participation.

Through this initiative, FIFA seeks to ensure that football associations have the resources necessary to develop the sport at different levels.

The construction of seven new fields in Aruba forms part of that broader international development effort.

Infantino Highlights Opportunities for Young Players

Following the launch, Infantino shared his enthusiasm about the initiative on social media.

The FIFA president described the project as an important step toward creating additional opportunities for young people in Aruba.

His visit also provided an opportunity to recognize the work of the Aruban Football Association and its efforts to improve football facilities across the island.

The presence of FIFA's president underscored the significance of the project for Aruba's football community.

Representatives of the association and local sports figures participated in the activities surrounding the official launch.

Brief Visit Ends After One Day

Infantino's visit lasted only one day. After attending the project launch and meeting with local football representatives, he departed Aruba.

Although the visit was brief, it marked the beginning of a major football infrastructure initiative for the island.

The seven new artificial turf fields are expected to contribute to the development of youth football and strengthen the facilities available to Aruba's football community.

The announcement also highlights FIFA's continued investment in football development across the Caribbean, where national associations rely on infrastructure projects and international support to expand opportunities for young players.
