Local, | By Correspondent April 16, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – A FIFA delegation led by football legend Hristo Stoichkov has arrived in Curaçao to officially launch the global “Football for Schools” program on the island, with participation from 40 schools.

The initiative targets children between the ages of four and fourteen and uses football as a tool to develop life skills such as self-confidence, teamwork, respect, and healthy living. Organizers emphasize that the program goes beyond sports participation, focusing on the personal growth and development of young people.

In the coming days, local coaches and teachers will undergo training to integrate the program into the education system on a long-term basis. The goal is to embed the initiative structurally within schools across Curaçao.

The visit will conclude on Friday with a large-scale festival at the Ergilio Hato Stadium, where around 100 children will actively participate, with an additional 100 attendees expected as spectators.

As part of the program’s implementation, FIFA requires the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the government. This agreement will be formalized during the visit and is intended to ensure the program’s sustainable rollout in Curaçao.
