WILLEMSTAD – The Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten (CBCS) is preparing for a major leadership transition, with Ference Lamp set to formally take office as president-director on September 2.
Candice Henriquez will take up the position of financial-economic director on the same date, while Leila Matroos-Lasten will remain in her current position as director-secretary. Together, the three will form the CBCS Management Board.
The appointments will fill vacancies within the Central Bank’s top management and follow the departure of current president Richard Doornbosch.
Doornbosch has already begun saying farewell to officials within the monetary union, including Sint Maarten Finance Minister Marinka Gumbs.
The leadership transition comes as Curaçao and Sint Maarten are also expected to complete the appointment of a new Supervisory Board for the CBCS.
The combination of a new president-director, a new financial-economic director and a renewed Supervisory Board represents an important institutional transition for the monetary authority responsible for Curaçao and Sint Maarten.
CBCS is responsible for monetary policy and financial-sector supervision within the monetary union of the two countries, giving its leadership an important role in banking supervision, financial stability and economic policy.
Lamp’s formal assumption of office on September 2 will mark the beginning of a new period for the Central Bank after Doornbosch’s tenure.
