WILLEMSTAD – Luigi Faneyte says the debate surrounding Curaçao’s online gaming sector should focus on transparency, accountability and the facts, rather than political interests or individual personalities.
Faneyte made the statement following a meeting on July 27 with investigative journalists Sam Kunti and Steve Menary, during which he presented documentation related to two criminal complaints he submitted in late 2024.
The financial-forensic researcher said the complaints were filed through the appropriate legal channels and relate to concerns about the implementation of Curaçao’s new online gaming licensing framework.
According to Faneyte, the issues raised require independent assessment, including questions about governance structures, decision-making processes, possible conflicts of interest and the participation of foreign parties in the licensing system.
“This is not about politics or personalities. It is about accountability, transparency, the integrity of public institutions, and ensuring that the rule of law prevails,” Faneyte stated.
He said that investigative journalism plays an important role in democratic societies by examining matters that affect the public interest.
Faneyte also stressed that the information he provided must be carefully verified and that the available documents and communications should form the basis of any conclusions.
The online gaming sector has become an increasingly important topic of discussion in Curaçao following the introduction of the Landsverordening op de Kansspelen (LOK), which created a new licensing framework under the Curaçao Gaming Authority (CGA).
Faneyte said his continued efforts are aimed at ensuring that public institutions operate with transparency and that any concerns involving public funds, regulatory decisions or governance are properly examined.
He added that he will continue cooperating with competent authorities and journalists who seek to establish the facts surrounding the sector.
