Ennia Settlement Dispute Continues Despite Accountant's Disciplinary Victory

Local, | By Correspondent July 10, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Although the Dutch Accountants Court has dismissed a disciplinary complaint against the Deloitte accountant involved in the Ennia settlement dispute, the underlying financial conflict between former Ennia executive Reinald Curiel and the insurer remains unresolved.

The disciplinary ruling concerned only the professional conduct of the accountant and did not revisit the merits of the financial dispute itself.

The financial disagreement arose after Curiel's departure from Ennia in 2020 following the insurer's placement under emergency administration by the Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten (CBCS).

In December 2024, the Court of First Instance in Curaçao used the Deloitte expert report as the basis for determining the financial settlement between the parties. Curiel and Reynhoff were given the opportunity to challenge the report and submit their own expert evidence but ultimately chose not to do so.

In August 2025, the Curaçao court rejected Curiel's claims, relying in part on the financial analysis prepared by Deloitte.

That judgment has since been appealed, meaning the underlying financial dispute remains before the courts.

The disciplinary decision therefore represents only one chapter in the years-long legal battle surrounding Ennia, which has been under CBCS administration since 2018 following the discovery of significant financial deficiencies that ultimately led to one of the largest corporate restructuring efforts in the history of Curaçao and Sint Maarten.
