Electricity Rates to Fall, Water Prices to Rise on Curaçao Starting July 1

Local, | By Correspondent June 25, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Households in Curaçao will see a slight reduction in electricity rates beginning July 1, while water tariffs will increase across all consumption categories, according to the latest utility tariff adjustments.

For residential customers using up to 250 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity per month, the new rate will be just over ANG 0.59 per kWh, down from nearly ANG 0.61 in June.

Electricity prices will also decrease in the higher consumption brackets. Customers using between 250 and 350 kWh per month will see their rate fall from just over ANG 0.71 to nearly ANG 0.70 per kWh. Those consuming more than 350 kWh will pay ANG 0.74 per kWh, down from almost ANG 0.76.

While electricity becomes slightly cheaper, consumers will pay more for water beginning next month.

The tariff for the first nine cubic meters of water will increase to more than ANG 8.43 per cubic meter. Consumption between 9 and 12 cubic meters will rise from ANG 13.47 to ANG 13.58 per cubic meter. Customers using between 12 and 20 cubic meters will pay ANG 15.52 per cubic meter, while usage above 20 cubic meters will increase to ANG 17.49 per cubic meter.

According to the government, the lower electricity tariff is the result of a reduced correction factor applied for May, despite higher average fuel costs associated with electricity generation.

The increase in water prices is attributed to higher electricity costs involved in producing drinking water, combined with the same adjustment in the correction factor.

Although electricity rates are declining compared to June, they remain noticeably higher than at the start of the year. On January 1, households in the lowest consumption bracket paid just over ANG 0.53 per kWh. Rates climbed almost every month, peaking at nearly ANG 0.61 in June before easing to approximately ANG 0.59 in July. Even after the reduction, electricity will still cost more than 5.6 cents per kWh above the January level.

Water prices have followed a different trend, rising almost continuously throughout 2026. On January 1, the first nine cubic meters of water cost ANG 7.94 per cubic meter. As of July 1, that same volume will cost ANG 8.43 per cubic meter—an increase of nearly ANG 0.50, or more than six percent, over the first six months of the year.

The latest adjustments reflect the continued impact of production costs on Curaçao's utility prices, with households benefiting from a modest reduction in electricity costs while continuing to face higher water bills.
