Education and Labor Market Reforms Aim to Prepare Curaçao’s Workforce for the Future

WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao is moving ahead with a series of education reforms designed to improve educational quality, strengthen special education and better align schools with the needs of the labor market.

According to the latest Landspakket progress report, a new Special Education Law has already been submitted to Parliament. The legislation would require teachers working in special education to obtain additional qualifications and aims to strengthen support for students with special needs.

Authorities are also preparing reforms involving teacher job classifications, salary structures and professional training programs for school inspectors.

The reforms are part of a broader strategy aimed at ensuring that education contributes more effectively to economic development.

The Temporary Work Organization (TWO), which oversees many of the reform projects, has repeatedly emphasized the importance of improving the connection between education and the labor market. Officials argue that stronger alignment between educational programs and workforce needs is essential for addressing labor shortages and reducing dependence on imported expertise.

Education remains one of the largest areas of Landspakket investment and is widely viewed as a cornerstone of Curaçao's long-term development strategy.
