WILLEMSTAD – The Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard carried out a rescue operation Sunday morning after a Dutch tourist became injured while climbing Christoffel Mountain.
According to the Maritime Operations Center of the Coast Guard, authorities received a report regarding an incident on the mountain after staff members from Christoffel National Park discovered an injured hiker.
The victim was identified as a 28-year-old Dutch tourist who reportedly injured her foot during the climb and was unable to continue walking on her own.
Following the report, the Coast Guard’s helicopter crew was immediately dispatched to the Christoffel area to assist with the rescue operation.
Authorities said the woman was quickly located with the help of other hikers who were also climbing the mountain at the time.
After being rescued, the tourist was transported by helicopter to Curaçao International Airport at Hato, where ambulance personnel were waiting to transfer her for medical treatment at Curaçao Medical Center (CMC).
No further details about the severity of her injuries were released.
