Dutch State Secretary Van der Burg to Visit Curaçao Next Week

WILLEMSTAD – Dutch State Secretary for Kingdom Relations Eric van der Burg will visit Curaçao next week as part of a working trip to the Leeward Islands, with talks on border security, neighborhood development, government finances and the justice system on his agenda.

Van der Burg will travel to Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao from October 12 to 17. His Curaçao program begins Thursday, October 15, following visits to Aruba and Bonaire. Pasted markdown

After arriving in Curaçao, the state secretary is scheduled to meet Governor Mauritsz de Kort. He will also hold government-level discussions with Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas and the Council of Ministers.

According to the program, Van der Burg will be briefed on issues including secure borders and neighborhood development. Pasted markdown

On Friday, October 16, Van der Burg is scheduled to meet the president of the Joint Court of Justice and the secretary of the Board of Financial Supervision (Cft).

He will also participate in a special sailing day organized by the Royal Netherlands Navy and other branches of the armed forces for invited guests, partner organizations and other stakeholders. Pasted markdown

Before arriving in Curaçao, Van der Burg will spend October 12 and 13 in Aruba. His program there includes meetings with Governor Alfonso Boekhoudt, Prime Minister Mike Eman and Minister Gerlien Croes, as well as visits focusing on employment opportunities, youth development, the former Lago refinery site, the KIA correctional institution and border control at Queen Beatrix International Airport. He will then travel to Bonaire, where discussions will cover the island's political and administrative situation, implementation of the governance agreement, developments at Selibon Lagún, tourism, government services, digitalization and the business climate. Pasted markdown

The Curaçao portion of the visit will place Van der Burg in direct talks with both the Pisas government and key Kingdom institutions responsible for justice and financial supervision.
