THE HAGUE – Dutch State Secretary for Kingdom Relations Eric van der Burg will accompany King Willem-Alexander during a brief visit to Aruba and Curaçao on Wednesday.

The visit is organized in connection with the commemoration of Aruba’s Status Aparte, which the island obtained 40 years ago. Aruba separated constitutionally from the Netherlands Antilles in 1986 and became an autonomous country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

During the visit, the King and the State Secretary will attend the official part of the anniversary celebrations in Aruba. In addition to the ceremonies, they are also scheduled to hold meetings with members of the Eman-Croes cabinet, leaders of political factions in the Aruban Parliament and representatives from academia, the business community and civil society organizations.

On the return trip, the royal delegation will make a brief stop in Curaçao, where discussions will take place with representatives of the local community.

The trip is described as a short working visit focused on the anniversary of Aruba’s constitutional status within the Kingdom.
