PHILIPSBURG – Dutch Defense forces in the Caribbean will temporarily support the Sint Maarten Police Force (KPSM) in efforts to combat crime and maintain public safety on the island.
The assistance is being provided at the request of the authorities in Sint Maarten. According to Defense Caribbean, military personnel will support the local police in maintaining public order and safeguarding security during the coming period.
No details were provided about the number of Defense personnel being deployed, the duration of the assistance or the specific operations in which they will participate.
Supporting civilian authorities is one of the three principal tasks of the Dutch Ministry of Defense in the Caribbean.
Defense Caribbean said the cooperation with KPSM reflects a shared objective of strengthening security and stability in Sint Maarten.
The deployment comes as local authorities continue efforts to address crime and reinforce law enforcement capacity on the island.
