WILLEMSTAD – A 36-year-old man has been sentenced to 24 months in prison, of which eight months are suspended, for selling drugs at popular tourist locations in Curaçao.
The man was arrested at the end of March and admitted that he operated as a regular drug supplier for tourists and entertainers at locations including Mambo Beach and Jan Thiel.
According to the case, he ran a delivery service under names such as “Cura Snuif Bezorgd,” supplying drugs including cocaine, ecstasy, hashish and Molly.
Digital payments
The court heard that payments for the drugs were made digitally through Tikkies to a Dutch bank account. Over a period of approximately two years, the transactions amounted to around 54,000 euros.
The suspect stated that he was able to easily bring drugs into the Mambo Beach area. Authorities are continuing to investigate whether clubs or other parties at the locations were aware of or involved in the activities.
The conviction highlights ongoing concerns about drug distribution in tourist areas and the impact of illegal substances on Curaçao’s hospitality sector. The investigation into possible involvement of entertainment venues remains ongoing.
