WILLEMSTAD – A driver narrowly avoided injury Thursday afternoon when a large palm tree collapsed onto her parked car on Zuster van Schijndelstraat, near the small square by the cathedral in Pietermaai.
Police received a report of the incident at around 2:40 p.m. Officers and firefighters were immediately dispatched to the scene to assess the situation and provide assistance.
Upon arrival, emergency responders found that a palm tree had fallen directly onto a vehicle parked along the road, causing significant material damage.
According to the driver, she had just parked her car and stepped out when she suddenly heard a loud crash behind her. When she turned around, she saw that the palm tree had fallen onto her vehicle.
No one was injured in the incident. Firefighters used chainsaws to cut the tree into sections in order to remove it from the car and clear the area.
