WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao police have arrested the driver of a Kia Soul in connection with the serious traffic accident last weekend that claimed the lives of two people at the intersection of Schottegatweg Zuid and Kaminda Dominico “Don” Martina.
Imro Zwerwer, head of the Communications Department of the Curaçao Police Force (KPC), confirmed that one person has been detained as part of the investigation into the fatal collision.
According to Zwerwer, the person arrested is the driver of the Kia Soul involved in the accident.
The suspect remains in custody while police continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. KPC has not yet disclosed what offense the driver is suspected of committing or whether charges have formally been filed.
The accident occurred during the early hours of last Saturday at the intersection of Schottegatweg Zuid and Kaminda Dominico “Don” Martina. Two women lost their lives as a result of the collision.
Police previously indicated that the preliminary investigation pointed to a possible failure to yield as a factor in the crash. The investigation is continuing to establish the precise sequence of events and determine responsibility.
The arrest marks a significant development in the investigation into one of Curaçao’s latest fatal traffic accidents. Authorities have not yet released further details about the detained driver.
