WILLEMSTAD – Children and teenagers from Ser’i Dòmi and Dòmi Abou will receive 50 school bags filled with supplies ahead of the new school year, as local community committees continue their annual partnership with Crown Automotives and Ford.
For the past three years, the Dòmi neighborhood committees have joined forces with the automotive companies to provide school supplies to children in the area. Organizers say the initiative is intended to give students a dignified and worry-free start to the academic year while supporting families with school-related expenses.
Preparations begin well before the distribution itself. At the end of each school year, volunteers from Ser’i Dòmi and Dòmi Abou start registering children and determining what type of school bag and supplies they will need.
The organizers have established three categories based on educational level: preschool, foundation-based education and secondary education. Working together with a teacher, the committees prepare lists of the necessary school materials according to the grade each student will enter.
This means that children do not simply receive identical packages. Each student receives a school bag and supplies selected according to his or her educational level and classroom needs.
The committees say the approach reflects their belief that strengthening the community begins by investing in its children and young people.
“We believe that every child deserves a peaceful and dignified start to the school year,” the Dòmi neighborhood committees said.
On Thursday, August 13, representatives of Crown Automotives and Ford formally handed over the school bags. Do Rego and colleagues presented the donation on behalf of the companies to Ana Maria Pauletta, representing the Dòmi community.
The bags are scheduled to be distributed Friday to children and teenagers living in Ser’i Dòmi and Dòmi Abou.
The community committees expressed appreciation to Crown Automotives and Ford for their continued support of neighborhood projects and said they are proud that the back-to-school initiative has become an annual effort.
“Together, we continue working toward a Curaçao with more opportunities for everyone,” the committees said.
They also wished all children and young people a successful new school year filled with learning and achievement.
