WILLEMSTAD – Dick Advocaat has officially announced Curaçao’s final 26-man squad for the upcoming World Cup tournament, with the selection featuring few major surprises and a strong presence of players active in Dutch football.
According to the final roster, eleven Curaçao internationals currently play in the Dutch Eredivisie.
Recent additions to the national team are also included in the squad, among them Sontje Hansen of Middlesbrough F.C., Riechedly Bazoer of Konyaspor, Armando Obispo from PSV Eindhoven, and Shurandy Sambo of Sparta Rotterdam.
The only player in the final squad who was actually born on Curaçao is forward Tahith Chong of Sheffield United F.C..
Preliminary information indicates that all selected players are fit and that no one had to withdraw because of injuries.
In goal, Advocaat selected experienced goalkeeper Eloy Room.
Defensive options include Bazoer, Obispo, Joshua Brenet, Sherel Floranus, and Juriën Gaari.
On the midfield, Curaçao will rely on players such as Juninho Bacuna, Leandro Bacuna, and Godfried Roemeratoe.
The attacking line features Tahith Chong, Sontje Hansen, Kenji Gorré, Jürgen Locadia, and Brandley Kuwas.
Curaçao will begin its World Cup campaign on June 14 against Germany national football team before facing Ecuador national football team on June 20 and Ivory Coast national football team on June 25 during the group stage.
