Data Sharing and VOG Reform May Affect Curaçao Residents

Local, | By Correspondent February 10, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Information exchange within the Kingdom’s justice systems is set to become more integrated, with particular attention given to the sharing of judicial data for Verklaring Omtrent het Gedrag (VOG) procedures.

The Netherlands aims to introduce legislation enabling the transfer of justice data between European Netherlands and the Caribbean part of the Kingdom for background checks.

Curaçao and the other countries are preparing amendments to their own legislation to facilitate harmonization.

Additionally, ministers discussed the complex but urgent process of aligning personal data protection standards across the Kingdom — a step that could influence how justice institutions in Curaçao process and exchange sensitive information.
