Local, International, | By Correspondent April 20, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Damen Shiprepair Curaçao (DSCu) has become the first company on the island to obtain a triple ISO certification, marking a significant milestone in quality, safety, and environmental standards within the local maritime sector.

The shipyard has been awarded three internationally recognized certifications: ISO 9001 for quality management, ISO 45001 for occupational health and safety, and ISO 14001 for environmental management. The certifications were issued by Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance.

According to DSCu, the achievement confirms that the company’s operations meet strict global standards in delivering consistent services, ensuring safe working conditions, and minimizing environmental impact. The certification places the Curaçao-based shipyard firmly in line with international best practices in the maritime industry.

ISO 9001 focuses on quality management systems, requiring companies to maintain structured processes that consistently meet customer expectations. ISO 45001 addresses workplace health and safety, obligating organizations to identify and reduce risks to employees in order to prevent accidents and occupational illness. ISO 14001, meanwhile, centers on environmental management, requiring companies to actively manage and reduce their environmental footprint through more efficient use of resources and energy.

Director Surldric Rojer described the certification as an important milestone for the company. He said it reflects the dedication of DSCu’s workforce and its ambition to operate at a high international level.

The triple certification is expected to strengthen the company’s competitive position and increase confidence among international clients. At the same time, DSCu emphasized that it will continue investing in its personnel and in sustainable business practices.

The achievement comes as Curaçao seeks to further position itself as a key maritime hub in the Caribbean, where adherence to international standards is increasingly seen as essential for attracting global business.
