Curaçao Transport Authorities Remind Bus, Taxi and Tour Bus Operators to Register for Committee Elections

Local, | By Press release November 4, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – The Traffic and Transport Service (UOVV), in cooperation with the Civil Affairs Department (Kranshi), is reminding public transportation operators in Curaçao to obtain their nomination forms in time if they wish to stand as candidates in the upcoming elections for sector representative committees.

The elections will provide representation for three categories within the public transportation sector: small and medium-sized buses, taxis, and tour buses.

In an announcement published on November 4, 2026, the authorities emphasized that interested candidates should begin the registration process as early as possible to allow sufficient time to collect the required supporting signatures and complete their applications.

Nomination forms are available free of charge at the Civil Affairs Department (Kranshi) between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Candidates Must Obtain Support From Licensed Operators

To qualify as a candidate, applicants must demonstrate that they have the support of other licensed operators within their respective transportation categories.

Candidates seeking to represent small and medium-sized buses must obtain signatures from at least 25 other licensed bus owners.

Those seeking election to the taxi committee must secure the support of at least 10 other licensed taxi owners.

Candidates for the tour bus committee must obtain signatures from at least three other licensed tour bus owners.

The authorities emphasized that all supporting operators must hold valid permits.

These requirements are intended to ensure that candidates have the necessary backing from operators within the sector they wish to represent.

Completed Applications Must Include Photograph

In addition to collecting the required signatures, each candidate must sign the nomination form to formally confirm acceptance of the candidacy.

Applicants must also submit a passport-sized photograph with their completed nomination documents.

The UOVV and Kranshi are encouraging interested operators not to wait until the last moment to obtain their forms, as collecting the required signatures may take time.

Incomplete applications or supporting signatures from operators without valid permits could affect a candidate's ability to meet the nomination requirements.

Authorities Encourage Timely Registration

The upcoming elections are intended to establish representation for the different categories of Curaçao's public transportation sector.

Through the committees, the respective transportation groups will have designated representatives.

The authorities have not specified the election date or the final deadline for submitting nomination forms in the latest reminder.

Operators interested in becoming candidates are therefore encouraged to visit Kranshi during the designated hours to obtain the necessary documentation and review the applicable requirements.

The UOVV and the Civil Affairs Department stressed the importance of preparing applications in advance to ensure that candidates have sufficient time to complete the nomination process.
