WILLEMSTAD – Tyron Boekhoudt has announced that the long-awaited investigation into the working conditions of nurses on Curaçao will officially begin on July 1.
The study, which healthcare union CBV has been requesting for an extended period, is expected to take between six and eight months to complete.
According to the timeline provided by the Ministry of Health, the final results should become available no later than the first quarter of 2027.
The union will be closely involved throughout the process.
CBV will be allowed to provide input on the research plans and raise concerns and priorities directly from healthcare workers on the ground.
The ministry indicated that the progress of the investigation still depends on several factors.
An external research agency still needs to be selected, while healthcare institutions must also provide the required data and documentation on time in order for the investigation to proceed according to schedule.
Once the final report is completed, Minister Boekhoudt has pledged to personally present and explain the findings to the union.
The investigation comes amid ongoing discussions about workload, staffing shortages, salaries, and working conditions within Curaçao’s healthcare sector, where nurses and other healthcare professionals have repeatedly expressed concerns about pressure on the system.
The study is expected to play an important role in future discussions regarding labor conditions, healthcare policy, and retention of medical personnel on the island.
