Curaçao to host major Caribbean shipping conference amid global trade uncertainty

Local, Caribbean, | By Correspondent May 2, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao will host one of the Caribbean’s most important maritime industry gatherings later this month as regional shipping leaders meet to discuss the future of trade, logistics and port operations.

The 24th edition of the Caribbean Shipping Executives’ Conference (CSEC) will take place from May 17 to 19 and will be jointly hosted by the Caribbean Shipping Association and the Curaçao Ports Authority at the Curaçao Marriott Beach Resort.

The conference comes at a time when Caribbean shipping faces major global challenges.

Rising geopolitical tensions, supply chain disruptions and increasing maritime security risks are putting new pressure on regional ports and shipping companies.

For Curaçao, hosting the event reinforces the island’s growing strategic importance in regional shipping.

Its location at the southern gateway of the Caribbean positions it as a natural logistics point between Latin America, North America and Europe.

The conference is expected to bring together port executives, shipping agents, logistics providers and policymakers from across the Caribbean.

Topics are expected to include trade resilience, port modernization, digitalization, regional shipping cooperation and maritime security.

Curaçao’s own port infrastructure continues to evolve, particularly as cruise traffic grows and cargo movements remain strong.

The island’s role in oil transshipment, container handling and tourism shipping makes it one of the most diverse maritime economies in the region.

Industry leaders say regional collaboration is increasingly essential as Caribbean economies remain heavily dependent on imported goods.

The event is also expected to strengthen Curaçao’s commercial maritime network and attract new business opportunities for local port services.

With global shipping becoming more complex, Curaçao’s ability to host such a high-level conference signals its ambition to remain a serious regional maritime player.
