WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao is preparing for what organizers describe as the largest fireworks display ever staged on the island as excitement continues to build ahead of the national football team's historic debut at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The event will take place on June 13 at Caracasbaai, one day before Curaçao faces Germany in its first-ever World Cup match.
Organizers say the celebration is intended to unite the island and create a festive atmosphere ahead of one of the most significant moments in Curaçao's sporting history.
Full Day of Entertainment
The festivities are scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. and continue until 10:00 p.m. Visitors can expect a full program featuring performances by local artists, DJs, and a variety of entertainment activities.
The event will also extend onto the water, with organizers planning several maritime attractions. A large number of boats are expected to gather in Caracasbaai to participate in and watch the celebrations from the sea.
The combination of land-based and water-based entertainment is expected to transform the bay into one of the island's main gathering points as residents celebrate Curaçao's qualification for the World Cup.
Four Fireworks Shows Planned
The highlight of the evening will be the fireworks display, scheduled to begin at 9:00 p.m.
According to organizers, the show will consist of four separate fireworks presentations. Three of the displays will be launched simultaneously from different locations around Caracasbaai, creating a panoramic spectacle visible from multiple vantage points.
Each fireworks segment is expected to last between 25 and 27 minutes, making it one of the most extensive pyrotechnic productions ever organized on the island.
Celebrating a Historic Moment
The fireworks event comes as Curaçao enters the final countdown to its first appearance at a FIFA World Cup. The national team, known as the Blue Wave, will begin its campaign against Germany before facing Ecuador and Ivory Coast in the group stage.
The island has embraced World Cup fever in recent weeks, with businesses, government institutions, and community organizations organizing activities to celebrate the achievement and rally support for the national team.
Organizers say the June 13 celebration will serve as a symbolic send-off for the Blue Wave and an opportunity for the entire community to come together ahead of the country's historic World Cup debut.
