WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao will become the center of judicial cooperation within the Kingdom of the Netherlands from September 1 through 3, when justice ministers from Aruba, Sint Maarten and the Netherlands travel to the island for the Four-Country Justice Consultation (JVO).
Curaçao Minister of Justice Shalten Hato will chair the meetings and welcome his counterparts from the other three countries of the Kingdom.
The JVO periodically brings together the justice ministers of Curaçao, Aruba, Sint Maarten and the Netherlands to discuss matters of common interest, establish joint priorities and make agreements aimed at strengthening cooperation in the justice sector.
The three-day program begins Tuesday, September 1, with an official-level meeting. Senior justice officials from the four countries will prepare the agenda and issues that will subsequently be discussed by the ministers.
A strategic meeting on judicial cooperation within the Kingdom will follow on Wednesday, September 2. According to the Curaçao government, the session is intended to provide an opportunity for deeper discussions and strategic reflection on common challenges and opportunities for further cooperation.
The JVO concludes Thursday, September 3, with the ministerial meeting chaired by Hato.
During that session, the four justice ministers are expected to discuss current justice-related issues, joint priorities and agreements needed to further strengthen cooperation between the countries.
The government has not yet publicly detailed the individual issues that will be on the ministers' agenda.
As host country, Curaçao said it intends to use the meetings to pursue concrete steps toward stronger judicial cooperation within the Kingdom and translate shared priorities into clear agreements and results.
