Curaçao to Host ‘Ami Ta Prepará’ Expo and Scavenger Hunt to Promote Emergency Preparedness

Local, | By Press release October 14, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – The government of Curaçao will organize the first edition of the “Ami Ta Prepará Expo” on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Brionplein in Otrobanda, offering residents practical information and advice on how to prepare for potential emergencies and crisis situations.

The event, held under the theme “Preparing Together for Possible Crises,” will bring together government agencies responsible for crisis management and other participating organizations. Visitors will receive practical guidance, useful tips and recommendations they can apply at home to improve their preparedness for emergencies.

The expo forms part of a broader public awareness campaign aimed at helping Curaçao residents understand the importance of being prepared for unexpected situations.

Previously known as the “PrepareNOW Expo,” the event was organized by the Directorate of Risk Management and Disaster Control (DRR), in cooperation with stakeholders and partners involved in emergency management.

This year, the event has been given a new name and location, while its activities have been expanded to include an interactive scavenger hunt.

According to the organizers, preparing for emergencies helps create greater peace of mind and enables communities to respond more effectively when unexpected situations arise.

Government agencies responsible for emergency response prepare throughout the year to deal with potential crises. However, the authorities emphasize that individual households also have an important role to play.

When more residents are adequately prepared, emergency services can concentrate their resources on assisting vulnerable individuals and those who are unable to help themselves.

As part of this year's program, organizers will introduce the “Ami Ta Prepará Scavenger Hunt,” an interactive competition designed to test participants' knowledge of emergency preparedness.

Teams of up to five people will travel by car to complete various assignments related to crisis preparedness.

The winning team will receive a cash prize of XCG 2,500, while several additional prizes will also be awarded.

Registration for the scavenger hunt was open until October 13, 2026. Information about participation requirements and competition rules is available through the government's official website at gobiernu.co/amitapreparascavengerhunt.

The expo will place particular emphasis on families and children, providing opportunities to learn about emergency preparedness through educational and entertaining activities.

The organizers hope the interactive approach will encourage residents of all ages to become more aware of the steps they can take to protect themselves and their families during a crisis.

Residents can obtain additional information by following “Ami Ta Prepará” on Facebook and Instagram, as well as through the official social media channels of the government of Curaçao.

The Ami Ta Prepará Expo will take place on Saturday, October 17, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Brionplein in Otrobanda. Admission is free, and all residents are invited to attend.

The organizers are encouraging the public to embrace the campaign's central message: “I am prepared. Are you?”
