Curaçao to Host ‘Ami Ta Prepará’ Expo and Scavenger Hunt on October 17

Local, | By Correspondent September 16, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao residents will have an opportunity to learn how to prepare themselves and their families for emergencies during the first edition of the “Ami Ta Prepará Expo,” scheduled for Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Brionplein. The event will bring together government agencies and other organizations involved in crisis and disaster management.

The theme of this year’s event is “Preparing Together for a Possible Crisis.” Participating organizations will provide practical information, useful tips and advice that residents can apply themselves when preparing for an emergency.

The Ami Ta Prepará Expo forms part of a broader public awareness initiative aimed at helping Curaçao residents become better prepared for different types of crises.

Until last year, the event was known as the PrepareNOW Expo and was organized by the Directorate of Risk Control and Disaster Management (DRR), together with stakeholders and partners involved in crisis management. This year, the initiative has a new name and location and has been expanded to include the “Ami Ta Prepará Scavenger Hunt.”

According to the organizers, better individual and household preparedness can make an important difference during a major emergency. Government agencies prepare throughout the year to respond to possible crises, but residents can also take measures to protect themselves and their families.

When more people are capable of taking care of themselves during the initial stages of an emergency, emergency services have greater capacity to concentrate their resources on vulnerable residents and people who cannot help themselves.

As part of the October 17 activities, residents can test their knowledge through the Ami Ta Prepará Scavenger Hunt. Teams of up to five people will travel by car to different locations while completing a series of assignments related to emergency preparedness.

The winning team will receive a cash prize of XCG 2,500, while several additional prizes will also be awarded.

Registration for the scavenger hunt remains open through October 13. Information about participation rules and registration is available through the Government of Curaçao’s Ami Ta Prepará channels and website.

The expo itself will place particular emphasis on families and children, using interactive and entertaining activities to demonstrate what residents can do before a crisis occurs.

The Ami Ta Prepará Expo will take place at Brionplein on Saturday, October 17, from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Admission is free.
