WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao’s Tax Department will begin paying a new batch of tax refunds on October 8, with 5,188 assessments resulting in refunds totaling more than XCG 7.1 million, according to information provided by Finance Minister Charles Cooper.
The figures cover tax assessments and refunds processed between August 17 and September 27. During that period, the Tax Department processed 4,769 tax returns as part of efforts to reduce the backlog.
According to Cooper, a total of 5,188 assessments across the different tax years resulted in money being owed back to taxpayers. The total amount established for reimbursement is XCG 7,086,206.
This works out to an average refund of approximately XCG 1,366 per assessment.
For tax year 2025 specifically, the Tax Department processed 3,779 returns during the period. Of these, 3,425 were handled through ADAF and another 354 were processed manually.
The figures show that 4,269 assessments for the 2025 tax year resulted in refunds totaling XCG 5,214,506. That represents an average refund of approximately XCG 1,222 per assessment.
Payments for taxpayers included in this batch are scheduled to begin on October 8.
At the same time, the figures show that tax processing does not only result in refunds. Across all tax years, 4,876 assessments resulted in additional tax being owed to the government, totaling XCG 17,465,711.
Despite the progress made in recent weeks, the Tax Department continues to face a substantial backlog.
As of September 27, there were still 34,512 tax returns in the department’s inventory awaiting processing. Of those, 13,774 relate to tax year 2025.
The latest figures provide a clearer picture of the scale of the ongoing assessment operation. Between August 17 and September 27 alone, 4,769 returns were processed, while more than XCG 7.1 million has now been established for repayment through 5,188 refund assessments.
For taxpayers awaiting money from the government, the most immediate development is the October 8 payment date, when the Tax Department is expected to begin disbursing the refunds included in the latest batch.
