Curaçao Targets Lower Business Costs and Stronger Investment Climate

Local, Economy, | By Correspondent June 12, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao is preparing a new wave of economic reforms aimed at reducing bureaucracy, lowering business costs and making the island more attractive to investors.

The reforms are part of the second phase of the government's Red Tape and Cost of Doing Business program, which seeks to eliminate administrative barriers that have long frustrated entrepreneurs and investors.

Among the measures under development are improved digital government services, the introduction of legally recognized digital signatures and better access to information for businesses dealing with government agencies. The reforms are expected to shorten permit procedures and reduce paperwork.

The economic reform agenda extends beyond government procedures. Authorities are also focusing on digitalization, sustainability, access to financing and stronger cooperation between public and private stakeholders.

A key component of the strategy is tourism. Following the completion of Curaçao's tourism carrying capacity study, policymakers will begin developing a comprehensive vision for the future of the sector. The study is expected to guide decisions on sustainable tourism growth, infrastructure investments and environmental protection.

In addition, a special downtown coordinator has been appointed to support revitalization efforts in Willemstad's historic city center.

Government officials hope the combination of reduced bureaucracy, improved digital services and long-term economic planning will strengthen Curaçao's competitiveness and create conditions for sustainable growth.
