WILLEMSTAD – The Council of Ministers has approved instructions supporting the signing of a new protocol to the European Convention on Extradition.
The decision was taken during the Council's meeting on May 27 and will be presented through Curaçao's Minister Plenipotentiary at the Kingdom Council of Ministers.
The measure concerns the Fourth Additional Protocol to the European Convention on Extradition, an international treaty that governs cooperation between countries in extradition matters.
Although extradition remains a Kingdom responsibility, Curaçao participates in decisions concerning international agreements that affect the country's legal system.
The protocol is intended to modernize extradition procedures and improve judicial cooperation between participating countries.
Government officials have not yet released details regarding the specific changes contained in the protocol, but the approval represents Curaçao's support for continued international cooperation in criminal justice matters.
The agreement must still pass through the remaining Kingdom approval procedures before it can take effect.
