PANAMA CITY – As preparations continue for the 39th Ordinary Assembly of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament in Panama, Curaçao is positioning itself to strengthen the Caribbean’s voice within the regional body.

During recent preparatory meetings, Curaçao put forward a proposal to establish a special committee dedicated to Caribbean affairs. The initiative reflects growing recognition that the region faces distinct challenges that require targeted attention within broader Latin American discussions.

The assembly in Panama is being held under the theme of sustainability and regional cooperation, with multiple commissions addressing issues such as economic development, agriculture, and governance.

Curaçao’s proposal aligns with ongoing efforts within Parlatino to enhance collaboration and ensure that smaller Caribbean territories are adequately represented in regional policymaking.

A decision on the proposed committee is expected to follow discussions during the assembly. If implemented, Curaçao will host the first meeting, further reinforcing its role in regional parliamentary cooperation.

The move highlights a broader push among Caribbean representatives to ensure that their priorities—ranging from climate resilience to economic diversification—receive greater visibility within regional institutions.
