WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao Rif Mangrove Park will open its doors to the public on Thursday, July 2, 2026, for a free Open Day featuring a full program of nature, education and family-friendly activities.
From 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., visitors of all ages are invited to explore the park free of charge and take part in a variety of activities designed to showcase Curaçao's unique mangrove ecosystem.
Throughout the day, guests can enjoy children's activities, a bounce house, face painting, a plant sale, and a selection of food and beverage stalls. The event aims to introduce both residents and visitors to the island's natural environment in an engaging and accessible way.
Open Day Games
One of the highlights of the event will be the Open Day Games, scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Teams representing various organizations will compete in a series of fun, educational and sporting challenges in and around the water.
Activities include a kayak tug-of-war competition and a scavenger hunt through the mangrove park. In addition to prizes for the highest overall score, awards will also be presented for best teamwork and team spirit.
According to park manager Duvan Rios, the games perfectly reflect the park's mission.
"Nature brings people together. With the Open Day Games, we want to unite organizations in a fun way while helping participants learn more about the importance of mangroves and Curaçao's natural environment," Rios said.

Discovering a Unique Ecosystem
The Curaçao Rif Mangrove Park serves as an important ecological link between land and sea. Its mangrove forests provide vital nursery habitat for young fish, birds and other wildlife, help protect the coastline from erosion, and contribute to the health of nearby coral reefs.
"We want as many people as possible to have the opportunity to discover the park," Rios said. "Many residents know about the area but have never actually visited it. During this Open Day, they can experience firsthand how unique and valuable this ecosystem truly is."
Free Admission for Everyone
The Open Day is organized by Carmabi as part of its efforts to encourage residents and visitors to learn more about Curaçao's natural heritage through a combination of education, recreation and community engagement.
The event will take place on Thursday, July 2, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at the Curaçao Rif Mangrove Park. Admission is free of charge.
