WILLEMSTAD – Krus Kòrá Kòrsou celebrated its 95th anniversary on May 18 with a special church service attended by board members, partners, volunteers, and supporters of the organization.

The commemorative Mass took place at the Parokia di Suffisant and drew a large turnout of members and volunteers connected to the island’s largest volunteer organization.

During the ceremony, Vice President Astrid Carolina-Richardson delivered a speech on behalf of the board, describing the anniversary as a moment of pride and gratitude for nearly a century of humanitarian service on Curaçao.

According to Carolina-Richardson, the organization’s 95-year history represents decades of compassion, solidarity, humanity, and commitment to the community.

Over the years, the Curaçao Red Cross has played what she described as an essential role in the lives of many people by providing assistance during some of the most difficult moments faced by families and communities.

“In times of crisis, need, and emergencies, the Red Cross has remained a pillar of hope and support,” she said.

She also emphasized that the work carried out by the organization is not only important, but necessary for society.

Special recognition was given to the organization’s volunteers, whom Carolina-Richardson thanked for their sacrifices and willingness to leave their homes to assist others in need.

“Helping people from the heart is not something you learn in school; that feeling must come from the heart,” she said.

The speech also reflected on the origins of the international Red Cross movement, founded in 1859 by Henry Dunant, noting that Curaçao’s Red Cross continues to follow the same humanitarian principles today.

According to the organization, the Red Cross remains committed to helping people regardless of color, race, or religion, continuing its mission of providing assistance without discrimination.

During the ceremony, attendees also observed a moment of silence in memory of deceased members of the organization, with special tribute paid to Henky Stomp, described as an important pillar of the Curaçao Red Cross, who was recently laid to rest.

The event concluded with messages of appreciation directed toward all volunteers as the organization now begins preparing for its centennial celebration in the coming years.
